Garnet Faye Chasteen

Garnet Faye Chasteen, 89, of Fayetteville, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.

She was born on March 16, 1934, in Summerlee, West Virginia to Joseph and Estelle Matulis.

Garnet was a veteran of the United States Navy, member of Lochgelly Baptist Church and loved working on jigsaw puzzles, doing crossword puzzles, playing the card game Skip Bo, and spending time visiting with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Estelle Matulis, and her oldest daughter Sue Webb.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Juanita MacNaughton (Glenn); her children, Jerry Chasteen, Jr (Martha), Terry Chasteen (William Alexander), Lisa Chasteen, and Monica Marcum (Sam); her nephew, Joseph Slocum;son-in-law Ronnie Webb; 7 grandchildren, Michelle Clarkson, Becki Webb, Wendy Smith (Michael), Megan Goins (Jeremiah), Amber Humphrey, Sean Chasteen, and Sierra Johnson; 11 Great-Grandchildren, Jared Webb, Jordan Webb (Courtney), Makayla Clarkson (Eli), Jessie Webb, Madison Webb, Nathan Humphrey, Kaitlin Lambert, Blake Lambert, Bentley Pomeroy, Colten Pomeroy, Brooklyn Pomeroy, and Lakelynn Cook; and 1 Great-Great Grandson, Grayson Webb.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, December 22, 2023, at Highlawn Memorial Funeral Home in Oak Hill, West Virginia, with Pastor Bill McClung officiating. Friends may call on the family from 12:00-1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, Garnet requested donations be made in her name to her favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
