GEORGE MOSES LILLY

Lt. Col., George Moses Lilly, USMC, Ret., 90, of Falls Church, Virginia, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 in the Winchester Medical Center. 

Mr. Lilly was born July 16, 1921 in Ravenswood, West Virginia, the son of Robert and Ruth Long Lilly. He was an attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U. S. Marine Corps where he served in WWII and Korea. Mr. Lilly, who was long active in Fairfax County Civic Affairs, chaired the Fairfax County Planning Commission during a period of major commercial and residential growth in the 1980's. 

He was married to Nancy Howard Lilly. Mrs. Lilly preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, William "Bill" Heppenstall of Myrtle Beach, SC and James "Jed" Edmond Lilly and his wife, Ginny of Winchester, VA; a daughter, Nancy "Lyn" Rivero and her husband, Victor of Falls Church, VA; a brother, Harry A. Lilly; ten grandchildren, Charles William Heppenstall, Christopher Scott Heppenstall, George Benjamin Lilly, Stephen Donald Lilly, Samuel Jerome Lilly, Emma Ruth Lilly, Carolyn Elizabeth Wagner, John Robert Lilly, Anna Laurie Lilly and Claire Catherine Wagner; and six great grandchildren. A son, Robert "Bob" Lilly preceded him in death. 

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P. M. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church, McLean, VA.
