Kenneth Winford Renick Jr., 83, was born on June 28, 1941, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, and passed away at home on August 14, 2024. Kenneth was the son of Kenneth and Mabel Renick of Oak Hill. He was a 1959 graduate of Collins High School and married his loving wife, Priscilla, in 1966. The couple took up residence in Summerlee where they set themselves to raising their family. Kenneth lived a life dedicated to hard work. By the age of 12, he was driving coal trucks and helping his father and uncles run their series of independently operated “punch” mines. He would go on to work various jobs including delivery (and later managerial work) for Southern States, heavy equipment operating duties for the State Road, during which he helped with the clean up and recovery efforts of the Buffalo Creek disaster, heavy equipment operating for Royal Coal Company at the Clairmont Preparation Plant, and later forming his own excavation company, KTJ Excavating, which he operated well into his 70’s. It would be difficult to find a harder-working man than he, and he was continually saying, “If you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all.” Throughout his life, Kenny, as his friends and family knew him, enjoyed fishing, wood-working, blacksmithing, gunsmithing, and tinkering on old cars. His love for classic cars was only exceeded by his love for his wife, Priscilla, his three daughters, and six grandchildren. He was a steadfast man who could be counted on to do exactly what he said, and his influence on his family was immeasurable. He encouraged his three daughters to pursue college degrees, passed his love for classic cars and heavy equipment to his eldest grandson, taught his two eldest grandsons marksmanship, played whiffle ball and practiced casting fishing lines and archery with his youngest grandsons, and played Barbies and read endless stories with his only granddaughter, who he always joked was “Something Else. His knowledge, know-how, and love will be greatly missed. Kenneth was preceded in death by his infant sons, Kenneth Wayne and Michael Charles Renick; his mother and father, Mabel Renick and Kenneth Renick Sr.; and his sister, Carol, and her husband Ron Furry. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Renick; his daughter, Karen Whitley and her husband, Gary, Tammy Martin and her husband, Sam, and Jodie Kemlock and her husband, Aaron; and his 6 grandchildren, Kenneth “Andrew” Whitley, Owen Whitley, AJ Martin, Brandt Kemlock, Blake Kemlock, and Brynne Kemlock. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 19, 2024, at High Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Danny Goins officiating. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park.
