Mava Imogene (Moses) Whitlock, age 89 (1935 – 2025) of Fayetteville, WV passed away peacefully after a short illness. Mava was a 1953 graduate of Fayetteville High School. Mava married her beloved and devoted husband of over 69 years, James H. Whitlock, in 1955. Mava began working for Pat Hamilton as his legal assistant and office manager in 1955 and became an integral and indispensable part of his burgeoning Oak Hill law firm. A position she held until Mr. Hamilton’s retirement in the early 2000s. Mava continued at the firm through office relocation and changes in law partners. Mava retired in 2015 marking an astonishing 60 years working at the same firm. Loved and respected by many friends and colleagues, Mava was involved in many organizations and charitable activities including Quota Club and Relay for Life. She was well known and respected by many of the professionals in the Oak Hill/Fayetteville area. Her kind and generous nature had an impact on all of those who knew her. Mava was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fayette Heights where she served as church secretary for many years. Mava was preceded in death by her parents, Oather and Vesta Moses, brothers, John Woodrum and Dallas (late Loretta) Woodrum, sister-in-law Anna Wilder, and brothers-in-law Grady Whitlock and Billy (late Camilla) Whitlock. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to those remaining to celebrate her life including husband James H. Whitlock of Fayetteville, son Ben Whitlock (Cathy Dobbs), grand-children Emilie Whitlock and Noah Whitlock (Joliet, IL), brother Lowell (Rosalie) Moses (Roanoke, VA), sister-in-law Thelma Neal (Myrtle Beach, SC), sister-in-law Rose Woodrum (Princeton, WV), numerous nieces and nephews, and great friends Elizabeth Cole, the yoga care team (Lori Keller, Phyllis Wilson, Dorothy Ward), and Robin Gibson. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at High Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Anderson and Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Interment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on the family from 12:00 PM, Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at High Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations in Mava’s name can be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
