Wanda McCoy Lewallen, 79, of Oak Hill, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Wanda was born on August 25, 1944, in Oak Hill, the daughter of the late Herbert Edward McCoy and Freda Hodge McCoy Hitchcock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Edward McCoy, Jr., and sister-in-law Ann Thompson McCoy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Larry L. McCoy and wife Donna, of Huntington, her niece Marie McCoy Sheddan and husband Sam, of Oak Ridge, TN, her nephew Kenneth E. McCoy and wife Beth, also of Oak Ridge, her niece Jennifer McCoy Johnson and husband Daniel, of Copley, OH, her nephew L. Lee McCoy, Jr. and wife Heather, of St. Albans, WV, eight great-nieces and nephews, and eleven great-great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her stepsister, Emogene Hitchcock Scarbro, and husband John, of Oak Hill, as well as her niece Wendy Scarbro Harrah, also of Oak Hill, and her nephew David Scarbro, of Hinton.
She was fortunate to have many friends, through work, church, and the community. They are too numerous to mention individually, but they know who they are.
Wanda loved to knit and was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church Needlework Ministry. She was always ready to reach out to those in need, and her love of knitting gave her a sense of purpose and pride her whole life.
Her family held a small memorial service on Friday, April 5, 2024, at High Lawn Funeral Home, with Mr. Bill Gilman officiating and interment immediately following.
A second memorial for family and friends will be held at a later date.
